Even the head of the Sunken City Watch group has advocated for the area to be opened up to the public. Indeed, Sunken City has become so popular that many of the residents of the Point Fermin area have demanded the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks open the area, claiming that it has been stable for many years now. However, as the graveyard of a San Pedro neighborhood, it has also become an attraction, drawing tourists and locals alike. It is one of the only landslide areas along the coastline of San Pedro that remains closed to the public. Sunken City has a view of the Pacific Ocean and also the remains of concrete foundations, curbsides, sanitation, and piping from the neighborhood that once thrived on the San Pedro cliff. ![]() ![]() The present potential triangle seems inevitable, but I really hate that kind of thing, especially when the heroine seems to have no idea how to make a decision. Lila certainly notices when she’s got her own romantic issues, both past (wow, she’s got some bad exes, one of whom ends up murdered seriously though, the attempt to sort of redeem Derek towards the end is unnecessary and totally undermines all the lives he’s destroyed) and present. ![]() There’s obviously something going on with her Tita Rosie and a certain detective, but she (Lila and Rosie both) never even says anything. What I don’t get is how Lila can open the novel with “my life has become a rom-com cliché” but be so dense about a romance that doesn’t involve her. It pulls off one of those things better than the other. Arsenic and Adobo is a decent cozy mystery that is pretty aware that it is that, as well as a romance. ![]() ![]() Ribbit is held by a pact he made with his mother long ago, a pact that must be delivered upon in four days. That means saving the girl, so that Felicity can take her place at his side and Ribbit can exact revenge on all who have done him wrong-which includes his cousin, Tress. In the past he’s willingly played the fool, but now it’s time to fulfill his destiny. Ribbit Usher has been a punchline his whole life-from his nickname to his latest turn as the unwitting star of a humiliating viral video. As her mind slides deeper into delirium, Tress is haunted by the growing sound of Felicity’s heartbeat pulsing from the “best friend” charm around her fevered neck. With an infected arm held together by duct tape, the panther who clawed her open on the loose, and the whole town on the hunt for the lost homecoming queen, the odds are stacked against Tress. Tress Montor murdered Felicity Turnado-but she might not have to live with the guilt for long. Perfect for fans of Truly Devious and Sadie!
